Carolina Panthers rookie Jeremy Chinn played out his collegiate career as a safety. However, the former Southern Illinois product plans to explore other positions on his way to the pro league. His ability to play in several positions gives him an upper-hand going into the next season.

Speaking with Myles Simmons of Panthers.com, the rookie was asked about his role coming into the Panther's defensive line next season. Said Chinn,

“I wouldn't even give myself a position. I think I'm just a defensive weapon. I think I'm just a threat …

“They've shown me that they want me doing a lot … Just from meetings with me going back and forth between different positions and learning so many positions, and learning what guys are doing all around me from the D-line, to the backend, to the corners, and everything …

“So I think prioritizing my knowledge as far as what everyone is doing, I think that'll open up a lot of positions for me that I'll actually be able to play.”

The Carolina Panthers selected Chinn with the 64th pick of the second round in the 2020 NFL Draft. He had an impressive collegiate career as he was named a Consensus All-American, First-Team All-MVFC and finished with a total of 243 tackles, 13 interceptions, 31 passes defended and six forced fumbles.

There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding his position with three weeks to go before training camp starts. Chinn will be looking to take advantage of his athleticism and versatility to contribute from any position. His addition to the Panthers will hopefully help the team's efforts to bounce back from a 5-11 record last season.
