Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton recently tempered expectations regarding how this year's team stacks up to those in year's past. It appears linebacker Thomas Davis feels otherwise.

There is no question that the 2015 team is widely considered the most talented team in franchise history. According to ESPN's David Newton, he thinks this year's team is even better:

“He's been on a more talented team than this one?” Davis asked. “I've been around a lot of Cam teams, other than at Auburn, and they weren't that talented down there either. But this might be his most talented team. I don't know what he's talking about.

“From my observations, being a part of the 2015 team, athletically, speed-wise, from that standpoint in particularly on the offensive side, this is definitely the most talented set of guys I've been around.”

Davis' comments may seem like a bit of a stretch. The 2015 team boasted a franchise-record 10 players that were selected to the Pro Bowl. They had that year's MVP in quarterback Cam Newton and finished with an NFL-best 15-1 record en route to a Super Bowl appearance. It is safe to say that this team has yet to impose its will like they did that year.

However, there is still no doubt that they have gotten off to a promising start. The Panthers currently sit at 6-2 and still have yet to lose a game at home this season. They have also done a stellar job of fortifying their talent on the offensive side of the ball. The emergence of running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receivers DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel have given this unit an added dynamic that Newton did not have with the 2015 team. This is something that he, Davis, and tight end Greg Olsen were all able to agree on.

It is encouraging to see that the Panthers are confident in their new personnel. They will need all the firepower at their disposal in order to potentially knock off the high-powered New Orleans Saints in the NFC South standings.
