Patrick Mahomes' alma mater congratulated he and fiancee Brittany Matthews' newborn daughter in rather unique fashion.

Texas Tech sent a letter of intent for Sterling Mahomes just days after she was born. The letter is signed by athletic director Kirby Hocutt.

Mahomes was a two-sport star for the Red Raiders, while Matthews played soccer at UT Tyler and is now a co-owner of Kansas City's National Women's Soccer League team.

Time will tell whether Sterling has the same athletic genes as her parents, but the door would seem to be open in Lubbock.

Although Patrick Mahomes became one of the better NFL draft prospects in the country during his time at Texas Tech, his Red Raiders teams were not exactly dominant winners.

Mahomes threw for over 5,000 yards and 41 touchdowns in his junior season in 2016. But for all his individual success, Mahomes only had a 5-7 mark to show for it. Of course, that does not negate the pride the school undoubtedly has in being the alma mater for a transcendent talent at the quarterback position.

Mahomes will have some time to focus on his new baby girl this offseason. The Kansas City Chiefs star underwent surgery to replace a turf toe issue that hampered him throughout the team's run to the Super Bowl. He has since donned a walking boot and will eventually begin rehab in earnest.

The Chiefs will be hungry to get back to the Super Bowl after last month's humiliating loss, and their quarterback is intent on growing and evolving under center.

But Patrick Mahomes also has time to focus on the gift of family, with the birth of Sterling possibly even serving as a motivating factor heading into 2021.
