Josh Gordon had a productive performance last Sunday for the New England Patriots, but the one penalty he committed is going to cost him some money. Gordon was fined $10,000 for his face mask penalty versus the New York Jets, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

It wasn't surprising to see the referees throw the yellow flag when Gordon accidentally got a hold of Nate Hairston's face mask. At the same time, it is peculiar that the NFL is cracking down on Gordon for a typical occurrence.

On the play, Gordon was blocking Hairston after Phillip Dorsett caught a pass from Tom Brady. While engaging in the block, the Patriots wideout jammed his finger as he stuck his hand into Hairston's face mask.

By watching the play, there isn't any egregious act being committed by Gordon. Additionally, the receiver injured his finger first, causing him to reach for the defender and he happened to get a hand full of his face mask.

Following the penalized play, the veteran wide receiver had two of his fingers taped together. Along with the injury, he is now taking a small hit to his pocket.

Nevertheless, it wouldn't be surprising to see New England's athletic receiver appeal his fine from the league. Despite the finger injury, Gordon still was able to finish with six receptions for 83 yards, including two spectacular catches in the second half.

Now, after being fined, Gordon will turn his attention to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. New England may look for Gordon to be involved more in the offense with Julian Edelman questionable with a chest injury.
