The New England Patriots were eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday night and Tom Brady isn't the only player who has to decide on his future. While speaking to the media after the game, Ben Watson seemed to be leaning towards retirement.

“It’s difficult. I love this game, but there’s a time when you definitely have to move on. So definitely won’t be back here next year, probably, and then probably won’t be playing at all,” Watson said, via USA Today. “It’s something that I’ve tried to do before and it didn’t work. But there’s only so much your body can take, and so much you want to put your family though, before you want to settle down and have some roots. Figure out what the next chapter of your life is going to be. So we’re going to talk about it, of course, and make family decisions but it’s been a great run and it’s really special to be back here.”

Following the 2018 season, Watson made the executive decision to retire after spending the year with the New Orleans Saints. After spending just a few months in retirement, Watson was convinced by the Patriots to return to football.

Of course, Watson is no longer the player he once was when he was drafted in 2004 by New England. But the veteran tight end had arguably his best performance on Saturday versus the Tennessee Titans. The Georgia alum hauled in three receptions for 38 yards.

In 2019, Watson totaled only 17 receptions for 173 yards with the Patriots. Despite his lack of production, Watson would still walk away as a fan favorite in New England.

At 39-years-old, Watson has endured plenty of injuries and wear on his body during his playing career. Therefore, it's understandable that he is considering calling it quits after 16 seasons in the NFL. If Watson chooses to retire, Saturday's loss appears to be his final game in the NFL.
