New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is finally set to make his debut following an unprecedented offseason. It seems he is admittedly excited to return to the field following a prolonged period away from it.

Newton spent last offseason recovering from shoulder surgery before a foot injury limited him to two games in the 2019 campaign. He opened up on what it is like to be back with a new team in New England , via Chris Mason of MassLive.com:

“Excitement level is on 1,000,” Newton said. “I’m excited, happy. Just to get back into the rhythm of game week — the preparation, the little nuggets that you can often forget. You have to remember, I’ve been away from football, really, for a full year. Sixteen games. I missed the last games of 2018 and only played two games in 2019, so that’s equivalent to 16 games. I haven’t really had this whole process for a long time now, so being around, taking notes, watching film, finding out about different players each and every day, locking in — excited about the game plan and more excited about just trying to get in a routine with the newness of the play-calling, the coaches and even the players.”

Newton's comments are certainly understandable given all that transpired with him this offseason. After all, there had been plenty of speculation regarding his prospects after parting ways the Carolina Panthers and this continues even when he was signed by the Patriots.

Fortunately, Newton has done all he can to get his career back on track by establishing himself as the clear-cut starter in training camp. Meanwhile, his humble and charismatic approach have earned him plenty of praise from new coaches and teammates in New England.

Regardless, Newton remain focused on the task at hand by preparing to prove the doubters wrong. The time has now arrived to make it come to fruition in Week 1 versus the Miami Dolphins.
