Former MVP quarterback Cam Newton remains unsigned two months into free agency, and there aren't any clear landing spots in sight. However, according to Boston Sports Journal's Greg Bedard, the New England Patriots signing Cam Newton is still a possibility.

“As for the Patriots’ possible interest in Newton, it’s unlikely due to their cap situation. But should that change due to a Thuney trade or extension, the Patriots could have some interest, but only if the medicals came back clean and the team believed Newton would completely buy into their team-only concept.

Newton, who was released by the Panthers in March, hasn't really received interest from NFL teams so far this free agency. Despite his amazing resume, several NFL analyst believes that if Newton were to get signed, he would have to play a backup quarterback role.

Additionally, given the circumstances of Newton's past injury history, many teams may want him to pass a physical. However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, teams cannot give Newton a physical. Players are unable to get a physical because of travel logistics related to the coronavirus.

The Patriots have been one of the favorites to sign Newton this offseason ever since their former quarterback Tom Brady left them. However, as Bedard said, the Patriots may want Newton's medicals to come back clean.

This past season, Newton was hindered with injuries, causing him to only play in two games. In those two games, Newton recorded 572 passing yards and one interception.

Nevertheless, Newton signing with the Patriots may not seem as far fetched as it looks.
