Now that Eric Weddle is out with the Baltimore Ravens, the latest report suggests that the New England Patriots are a possible landing spot for his services.

According to CBS Sports, the Patriots expressed interest in picking up Weddle in the past and could be interested again.

New England possibly targeting Weddle isn't surprising, given that the six-time Pro Bowler is looking for a new home after posting 68 tackles, four quarterback hits, three passes defended, and a sack in 16 starts for the Ravens in the regular season last year. While his best days are behind him, Weddle is still a solid contributor and locker room presence.

The Ravens value their defense, to be sure, and Eric Weddle has certainly played an integral part in their number-one ranked unit.

The Patriots can certainly use more help on the backend of their defense. Perhaps this is why they're looking at Weddle? Certainly he would welcome the opportunity to join the team and has wondered why they didn't draft him more than a decade ago when they still had the chance.

From CBS Sports:

“I have nothing but high regard, respect and admiration – and envy, quite honestly – of the success of the New England Patriots over the years. Obviously, battling them in my career, it’s always been a great game. I love the way they play, love the foundation, love everything about it. It was definitely on my radar. There were talks both ways, it just didn’t end up [working out].”

So, it didn't work out back then, but is it possible that Eric Weddle could become a Patriot now? We'll keep you apprised of all the developments moving forward.
