As the New England Patriots are set to face a contract dilemma with J.C. Jackson in the offseason, Richard Sherman believes that the fourth-year cornerback deserves to receive a major payday.

Jackson has garnered much acclaim to be a top contender for the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. He has recorded seven interceptions so far this season and has allowed a 38.9 passer rating while in coverage. More so, he is leading New England’s No. 3 ranked pass defense, which has allowed 195.5 passing yards allowed per game.

As Jackson is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, Sherman sees that the Patriots star defensive back is much deserving of earning a notable contract deal in the offseason, which the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback touched on during a recent episode of his “The Richard Sherman Podcast.”

“It’s pisses me off they won’t pay that man his money,” Sherman said. “Pay him his money (Jackson should get) $20 million this year. … I don’t know if he’s gonna get it. He’s making what, second-round tender, which is like $3-4 million? … That’s silly.”

Jackson recently opened up about his aspirations to stay with the Patriots for the long term, as he noted that he would “love” to remain with the team past the upcoming offseason.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport did mention in October that the Patriots may opt to place the franchise tag on him rather than make an effort to sign him to a multiyear deal.

Nonetheless, Jackson sure is due for a major pay increase from the second-rounder tender deal that he is currently on.
