The New England Patriots recently welcomed back wide receiver Josh Gordon back to the facilities. Now it seems a couple of other familiar wideouts have also made their return to the practice field.

Both players have been recovering from injuries this offseason. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, they were able to get some limited work in at practice:

Reporters were present for a very brief warmup period, and Julian Edelman and Demaryius Thomas took part in that part of practice. This could be an indication they are coming off the NFI/PUP lists.

This is certainly an encouraging update for the Patriots. The strength of the receiving corps is largely predicated on their depth. The return of their more notable wideouts is a positive sign for the start of the 2019 NFL season.

Edelman was placed on the non-football injury list after breaking his thumb in the offseason. the reigning Super Bowl MVP is set to resume his role as quarterback Tom Brady's safety net in the passing game. Edelman has already expressed his excitement to get started with Gordon in the mix.

Meanwhile, Thomas spent the offseason recovering from the torn Achilles he suffered during the 2018 campaign. He now finds himself competing for a role in a receiving corps that is loaded with quality depth. While Edelman is more than happy to be sharing the field with Gordon once again, the latter's presence could limit Thomas' opportunities.

The veteran will need to take advantage of the time he has left if he hopes to establish a role on offense by the time the regular season rolls around.
