Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman gave his honest assessment of Mac Jones' play for the franchise, especially amid their two-game skid.

According to Edelman, Jones has hit the “rookie wall” in recent weeks, during which the Patriots lost to the Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills and dropped to 9-6 in the AFC East standings. The New England rookie scored two touchdowns in those contests, but he also had four interceptions in a rather shocking turn after a brilliant start to the campaign.

Edelman admitted he would have given him an “A-” had he kept the momentum going in the past two weeks, but unfortunately, that was not the case.

“I've got to give Mac a B+. These last two weeks, he could have been an A- if he continued that same play. We've seen him be a very efficient quarterback. You see him get through his progressions. You can see him drive a team down the field. But these last two weeks, you can tell that the rookie wall may have hit. The rookie wall is real,” Edelman said during the latest episode of Inside the NFL, per CBS Sports.

“He's had two games with two picks back-to-back. It will be interesting to see how he goes forward and to see really what he's made of.”

The Patriots are now behind the Bills in the AFC East, so they really need to win their last two games if they want to contend for the top seed in the division. However, that certainly depends on which Mac Jones will show up.

Is it the impressive rising star we've seen early in the season or the man who, in recent weeks, is showing he is still a rookie?

The challenge is on Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to put his quarterback in the best position to unleash his full potential. One thing is certain, though: Julian Edelman and everyone's eyes will be on Jones as he tries to bounce back from this recent rough patch.
