It's the end of an era in New England, as Tom Brady took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to announce that he would not be playing for the Patriots in 2020.

Following Brady's announcement, wide receiver Julian Edelman went on social media himself to post a simple, one-word tribute to the man he caught passes from since 2009:

Edelman was a seventh-round draft pick of the Pats over a decade ago.

Ironically enough, Edelman played quarterback at Kent State, but the Patriots decided to draft him and try him out as a wide receiver and kick returner.

The 34-year-old primarily served in a special teams role over the first four years of his career, amassing a grand total of 69 catches between 2009 and 2012.

However, in 2013, Edelman broke out, hauling in 105 receptions for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns en route to helping New England win its first Super Bowl title since the 2004-05 campaign.

From that point moving forward, Edelman developed into Brady's favorite target, posting a couple of more 1,000-yard seasons in 2016 and 2019.

This past season, Edelman enjoyed the most productive year of his NFL tenure, catching 100 passes for 1,117 yards and six scores.

While he has never made a Pro Bowl, he has been one of the most reliable wide outs in the league since breaking out in 2013 and will forever be remembered as one of Brady's top pass-catchers.

Meanwhile, Brady spent the first 20 years of his career in New England, leading the Pats to six Super Bowl titles and establishing himself as the greatest quarterback of all-time along the way.
