Julian Edelman won the Super Bowl MVP honors in last year's Super Bowl but if it weren't for him, Stephon Gilmore would've taken home the trophy. The Patriots wideout paid his respect to Gilmore on social media.

On a recent Twitter post, Julian Edelman showed Stephon Gilmore some love with a funny poster. The poster features a picture of Gilmore and a reference to the famous TV show, Gilligan's Island.

To the young readers, Gilligan's Island was a show in the 1960s that involves the characters being stranded on an island. By creating this poster, Edelman is eluding that lining up against Gilmore is like being stranded on an island.

And on that island, it's going to be hard for opposing wideouts to make plays. The Patriots All-Pro cornerback has become one of the league's premier corners since joining the team in 2017.

Last season, Gilmore took his game to another level in his second season in New England. In 2018, Gilmore had two interceptions and 20 pass deflections.

Additionally, Gilmore was given the highest coverage grade among cornerbacks by PFF. Gilmore was the definition of a shut-down cornerback in 2018 as he rarely allowed anything on his side of the field.

Gilmore saved his best game of the season for the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams in 2018. The veteran cornerback helped the Patriots defense allow just three points to the Rams high-powered offense. Individually, Gilmore had five tackles, three pass deflections, a forced fumble, and an interception.

If Gilmore has another season like 2018 this year, the nickname Gilmore's Island may stick.
