The New England Patriots are “unlikely” to sign free agent quarterback Jameis Winston.

According to a report from Mike Giardi of NFL Network, the Patriots are not likely to add Winston. This is despite the fact that Tom Brady recently bolted New England for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“The Patriots are “unlikely” to target the former Buccaneers QB, whom Brady is replacing in Florida, to replace TB12, NFL Network's Mike Giardi reported Friday, per a high-ranking New England official.”

Despite posting ridiculous numbers during the 2019 season, there remains very little free agency interest in Winston. That would be because Winston threw 30 interceptions last season — leading the NFL in that category.

As mentioned by Jeremy Bergman on the NFL's official website, no team is really in a rush to sign Winston. In fact, doesn't seem to be any significant interest from any club at this point.

“The Patriots are not in a rush to find him, and nearly 48 hours into free agency, no team is in a rush to lock up Winston, as its next starter or otherwise.”

Winston threw for 33 touchdowns and 5,109 yards. He became just the eighth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards in a single season. However, his high turnover numbers appear to have scared off teams. The 26-year-old QB is the only player in NFL history to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a single season.

With the Buccaneers having moved on from Winston, the former Heisman Trophy winner will have to find a new home. The problem is, he may have to begin the 2020 season on a team's bench.
