The New England Patriots hosted a visit with Baylor University wide receiver Jalen Hurd on Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Hurd is coming off of a senior campaign in which he hauled in 69 receptions for 946 yards and four touchdowns. In addition, he carried the ball 48 times for 209 yards and three scores.

The 23-year-old originally began his collegiate career as a running back with the University of Tennessee. During his freshman season with the Volunteers, Hurd rushed for 899 yards while reaching the end zone five times and caught 35 passes for 221 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Then, the following year, Hurd racked up 1,285 yards and 12 scores as a rusher and snared 22 balls for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He went on to play in just seven games with Tennessee in 2016, totaling 451 yards while reaching the end zone three times on the ground while logging 10 catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. He announced his decision to transfer from Tennessee in late October of that year.

Due to transfer rules, Hurd sat out the entire 2017 campaign.

The Patriots are in desperate need of help in the passing game as a result of tight end Rob Gronkowski retiring, wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson leaving for the Chicago Bears via free agency, and fellow wide out Josh Gordon currently serving an indefinite suspension for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement.

New England won 11 games and captured the AFC East division title this past season, marking its 10th straight division crown. The Pats then went on to win their sixth Super Bowl.
