Stephen Gostkowski of the New England Patriots is one of the best kickers in the NFL, but as of early April, he remains unsigned.

The general consensus has been that Gostkowski will end up returning to the Patriots, with whom he has spent his entire NFL career, but according to Michael Giardi of NFL Network, there isn't much going on in contract talks between the two sides.

Giardi adds that money is an issue, but that there is still plenty of time or a deal to get done.

Gostkowski is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he made 27 of his 32 field-goal attempts, with his season-long coming from 52 yards out. He also converted on 49 of his 50 extra points and went 5-of-6 on playoff field goals during the Patriots' run to a sixth Super Bowl title.

The 35-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Memphis, was originally selected by New England in the fourth round (118th pick overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Gostkowski had some big shoes to fill right from the get-go, as he was replacing legendary Pats kicker Adam Vinatieri, who had signed with the Indianapolis Colts via free agency that offseason.

While Gostkowski has never been Vinatieri, he did go on to become of the NFL's most consistent kickers, and thus far, he has made four Pro Bowl appearances while nailing down a couple of First-Team All-Pro selections.

The Baton Rouge native has helped the Patriots win three Super Bowl championships and has made 39 of his 44 career postseason field-goal attempts.
