The New England Patriots have moved one step closer toward reaching the Super Bowl after a convincing 35-14 win over the Tennessee Titans.

New England will face the Jacksonville Jaguars with another key piece of the offense back in the mix. Running back Rex Burkhead is expected to play on Sunday afternoon against the Jaguars, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.

Burkhead has been out of the lineup with a knee injury since he suffered it back on Dec. 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had been able to practice on a limited basis last Thursday, but couldn't prove that he was healthy enough to play in this past Saturday's game.

The 27-year-old has shown to be a major asset in both the running and passing game racking up 264 rushing yards with five touchdowns and hauling in 30 catches for 254 receiving yards with three touchdowns. His versatility has made him an invaluable piece to the offense, especially in the passing game where Tom Brady likes to spread the ball around to his multitude of receiving options.

In his absence, Dion Lewis carried the bulk of the load in the running game rushing for 62 yards on 15 carries while making nine catches on 10 targets for 79 receiving yards. Meanwhile, both James White and Brandon Bolden each scored rushing touchdowns.

His return to the field will provide the Patriots could be crucial in helping alleviate some of the pressure that Brady will receive in the pocket from the top pass-rushing defense in the league in Jacksonville with some dump off throws in his direction. He could also provide some balance to the offense behind his contributions in the running game, especially in goal situations.

With a full week of practice ahead, there should be more clarity in the coming days on if he will take the field against the Jaguars.
