The New England Patriots will open training camp without two of their best offensive weapons. Running back Sony Michel and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas will start training camp on the PUP list.

The New England Patriots made it to another Super Bowl last year and will be looking to return again this season. Without tight end Rob Gronkowski, the team (and more specifically Tom Brady) will be looking for a new monster target.

Due to that, training camp is going to be a very important time as they try to figure some things out.

Michel racked up 931 yards on 209 carries last season, scoring six times. It was an incredibly impressive rookie season and one that he can hopefully build upon.

Thomas meanwhile had a down-year in 2018. The wide receiver spent half with the Denver Broncos and half with the Houston Texans. In that time he combined for 59 receptions – his lowest since 2011.

Now Thomas is looking for a fresh start with the Patriots though as everyone involved hopes he can bounce back.

This are two obviously players that would benefit greatly from training camp. Especially as the team tries to fill the Gronkowski sized hole it currently has.

However, the good news is that they're allowed to come off the list at any time. Hopefully that comes early enough for both of them to get some extra chemistry with the offense and get into the flow of things before it's too late.

Both could be headed for monster seasons in 2019. It's just a shame they're starting off on the PUP list.
