The Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots are preparing for a Week 17 clash. The two teams are heading in very different directions, as the Patriots are very much in the mix for a wild-card spot while the Jaguars are headed for their fourth straight losing season. While they aren't enjoying current success, the Jaguars do potentially have a bright future with rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the picture. Ahead of their matchup, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick offered an honest take on Lawrence.

“So I think he’s had a good year and I think he’ll be a solid NFL player. Maybe great, I don’t know, but he’s certainly made a lot of progress this year.”

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick feels that Jaguars rookie Trevor Lawrence will be a solid NFL player. Lawrence has certainly had some bumps in the road, though Belichick feels that the Jaguars rookie has made strides this season.

The legendary Patriots head coach certainly knows a thing or two about evaluating talent, particularly at the quarterback position. However, he also has a propensity for buttering up his opponents in press conferences and then proceeding to destroy them come gameday.

This could be classic Belichick praising Lawrence, then sending all-out blitzes and terrorizing the Jaguars rookie on Sunday. However, the Patriots head coach is right about what Lawrence did in his last game against the Jets.

While he failed to throw any touchdown passes, Lawrence averaged a solid 7.2 yards per attempt while utilizing different kinds of passes. It was one of his better performances of the year and it didn't go unnoticed by Belichick.

Despite their rough season, Jaguars fans potentially have something to look forward to if Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is right about rookie Trevor Lawrence.
