The Miami Dolphins are still on the hunt for their new head coach, but one candidate, in particular, has emerged as a front-runner for the job. Brian Flores, who made a name for himself as the linebackers coach for the New England Patriots, is currently being eyed by Dolphins CEO Stephen Ross for the still-vacant head coaching position.

According to one source (per Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald), Flores is actually “near if not at the top of the Dolphins' list” for the head coaching position.

This isn't the first time that the South Florida team has tried to poach talent from New England: five years ago, Nick Caserio was in the running to be the general manager of the team. And, though he flew out to South Florida for two interviews, he ultimately passed on the position.

Flores, however, is in a different category. Right now, his position with the Patriots is a bit in limbo, as there's no guarantee he'll succeed Bill Belichick when Belichick retires. In fact, Flores' position as interim defensive coordinator didn't earn him a permanent position as the defensive coordinator, despite the fact that he immediately stepped in for Matt Patricia when Patricia got poached by the Lions for their head coaching position.

Additionally, Brian Flores is allegedly commanding a high eight-figure salary for the head coaching position in Miami. The question of whether he merits it, of course, is up in the air — but it will certainly be a lot more than he's getting from the Patriots at the moment, and with more job security.
