The New England Patriots have undergone a few notable changes to their wide receiver core that have seen the departure of a couple of primary pieces to the group along with the addition a few new faces.

New England could be hedging toward yet another move with that group as Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network is reporting that the team is looking into potential trades for wideout Malcolm Mitchell.

The possible decision to trade Mitchell could be based on the fact that he may be on the outside looking in terms of playing time next season with the Patriots having a plethora of options at wide receiver. Even with Julian Edelman being out for the first month of the season due to a suspension, the Patriots have a few options in Jordan Matthews, Kenny Britt, Chris Hogan, Philip Dorsett, and Cordarrelle Patterson.

Mitchell is set to enter his third year in the league with the Patriots where he has had questions concerning the health of his deal that has bothered him for the last several months. In his rookie campaign, he had shown flashes of potential hauling in 32 catches on 48 targets for 401 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. Mitchell had quickly developed a strong bond on the field with quarterback Tom Brady that helped him put up respectable numbers in a limited role.

However, it appears that the uncertainty around his knee and the crowded group of wide receivers on the roster has left him a bit out of the mix. He could get his career back on track with another team where he may have the chance to secure a role in the passing game to showcase the ability to be a dependable possession receiving option. With the start of training camp quickly nearing, this could be one of the moves that Patriots look to take care of in the near future.
