The New Orleans Pelicans are currently sixth in the Western Conference with a 22-2o record. All it takes for them to slide out of the playoff picture is losing a couple of games; the Portland Trail Blazers are 9th at 22-21, and the race for the last three spots in the West standings is tough.

The success the team has found this season is, in big part, thanks to their superstar big men, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, dominating opposing frontcourts.

With Cousins hitting free agency in July, reports about him leaving started surfacing. This lead to a big rumor surrounding Davis and the Boston Celtics, in which the Pelicans were trading away their star power forward in exchange for assets that would help them start another rebuild.

According to reports, Davis spoke to the Pelicans' front office to clear the air and learn if the franchise was looking to send him elsewhere. Speaking to the media at TD Garden this morning, before his Pelicans face the Boston Celtics for the first time this season, Davis denied the rumors.

In a video by MassLive's Jay King, Davis was asked about his conversation with the front office and the trade rumors, to which he answered:

“No, I haven't had a conversation with my front office.”

The reporter then said he read that quote “somewhere”, to which Davis said, “It wasn't from me.”

With Davis shutting rumors down himself, expect the speculation to go away. It is well known the Celtics organization has high interest in the star power forward. They have enough assets to compensate the Pelicans if they get Davis but, apparently, New Orleans is not interested. The front office is committed to re-signing Cousins and continuing to build around him, Davis, and guard Jrue Holiday.
