For months now, NBA personnel have been attempting to find a comparison for New Orleans Pelicans rookie and 2019 No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson.

Blessed with a unique combination of strength, speed and dynamic athleticism, Williamson is a physical specimen unlike any that the league has seen before.

While some have compared him to Larry Johnson, Charles Barkley and Julius Randle, Pelicans executive vice president David Griffin thinks that Williamson may actually be more comparable to Golden State Warriors All-Star Draymond Green.

Griffin told Jeff Duncan of The Athletic that he envisions Zion as someone who will be able to create offensive opportunities for his teammates.

“The thing about Zion, though, that excites us is, it’s not that he’s going to carry you offensively, it’s that he’s going to be able to facilitate offense,” Griffin said.

“If you look at him as an extremely athletic Draymond Green type who may be able to facilitate all things for others and get out in transition and make plays … that’s exciting. And because that’s what he natively really does, we’re not going to ask him to carry an undue burden (offensively).”

Williamson does not possess the same level of court vision as Green. That said, he may be able to spark the Pelicans' offense simply by attracting multiple defenders.

It is rather curious that Griffin chose to compare Williamson to Green from an offensive standpoint, for the simple reason that they may be more alike defensively.

Zion is a ruthless on the ball and has excellent footwork and reaction time as a help defender, making him a dynamic shot-blocker and someone who constantly disrupts the flow of the offense.

Nevertheless, the Pelicans would likely be thrilled if Williamson can produce at the kind of level that Green has for the Warriors, especially with respect to his playoff numbers.
