The New Orleans Pelicans are still in search of a new head coach after firing Stan van Gundy. However, if betting odds are any indication, it looks like Jason Kidd is the leading candidate to take over the franchise led by Zion Williamson.

According to BetOnline.ag, Kidd is a 7/2 favorite to take the head coaching post of the Pelicans. For what it's worth, though, the one-time NBA champion has also been linked to different coaching vacancies, particularly for the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics.

Jason Kidd's previous head coaching stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks didn't end in a good note, though he established a good relationship with Giannis Antetokounmpo while in Cream City. Still, his time has been controversial and he hasn't been on a head coaching job since 2018.

However, there is no doubt that he has one of the most brilliant basketball minds in the NBA, as he has proven in his 19 years in the NBA. He is also widely regarded as one of the best playmakers in the history of the league, which is just further testament to his basketball IQ. With that said, it is no wonder why the Pelicans and several other NBA teams want to steal him from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Aside from Kidd, however, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN previously reported that the Pelicans will also be interviewing Jacque Vaughn, Ime Udoka and Charles Lee for their vacancy.

It remains to be seen if the Pelicans and Jason Kidd will and up together, but one thing seems to be certain: Kidd is going back to becoming a head coach.
