The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently tied 1-1 in their first-round playoff series with the New York Rangers, but they will have to march on without No. 1 goaltender Casey DeSmith.

The 30-year-old suffered an abdominal injury in Game 1 against New York and has ultimately undergone core surgery as a result. The Penguins netminder will miss the rest of the playoffs.

That means Louis Domingue has had to step up as the number one option in between the posts since Tristan Jarry is also sidelined for the Penguins. The Quebec native made just two appearances in the regular season but showed well in the series opener, making 17 saves. In Game 2, Domingue made 35 saves but also let in five goals in a 5-2 loss to the Rangers.

This is certainly not ideal for Pittsburgh, but it's truly the next man-up mentality right now. However, Jarry isn't yet ruled out, which means he could potentially return at some point in the series. The Penguins will be looking to advance past the opening round in the postseason for the first time since 2018.

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday night in Pittsburgh. Let's hope Domingue can rise to the occasion and put together a much better performance. His team needs him badly.
