Sidney Crosby is coming to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ rescue. According to Pen Inside Scoop, the Pens star center is all set to make his season debut Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils at home.

Crosby went under the knife to repair a wrist injury last September, rendering him unavailable for the start of the season. However, the Penguins have done, more or less, an admirable job of keeping their heads above water while they wait for their captain to return to action. The Penguins kicked off their 2021-22 NHL season calendar with a booming 6-2 win over the reigning Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay Lightning on the road. Overall, the Pens are 3-2-2 entering the game against the Devils.

Crosby’s return is also perfect timing, as the Penguins have lost their last two games during which they were outscored 9-1.

Apart from Crosby, Pittsburgh is also getting back center Jeff Carter, who missed the last three games due to COVID-19 protocol.

At 33 years old, Crosby is still expected to be the Penguins’ best player this season. Last season, he played 55 games and scored 24 goals to go with 38 assists and a 103.9 PDO.

Pittsburgh's roster is still dealing with injuries to some key players, including Evgeni Malkin, who is likely weeks away from returning as he continues to recuperate from a knee surgery.
