The New England Patriots made a controversial move this week, trading for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon.

By now, everyone knows Gordon's story. He has unbelievable raw talent at the wide receiver position and is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. The problem is, he hasn't had many opportunities to catch the ball over the past few seasons due to suspensions related to failed drug tests.

Noted NBC Sports NFL columnist Peter King isn't a fan of the Patriots' move of acquiring Gordon, saying on WEEI's Dale and Keefe show Gordon is not worthy of being a Patriot.

“I was not high on it at all,” King said. “The history of Josh Gordon is beyond riddle with off-field issues, substance abuse, consistently letting the team down that drafted him and continually, time after time showed faith in him and brought him back – I thought it was a bad trade quite honestly. The Patriots might get something good out of him, and if they don’t get anything good out of him then it is almost nothing ventured nothing gained.

“The Patriots are a proud franchise, and I realize what I am saying is a little bit of idealistic crapola, but the Patriots should not be in business with Josh Gordon. He is not worthy of this franchise.”

Pretty strong words from King there. He's not wrong in his assessment, though.

There's a saying in sports, “Your best ability is your availability,” and Gordon doesn't fit that bill. After playing in 14 games in 2013, Josh Gordon has only appeared in 11 games since. He missed the entire 2015 and 2016 season due to a violation of the league substance abuse policy.

If Gordon can't keep his head on a swivel in New England, arguably the best football franchise of the last decade, then he truly is a lost cause.
