The Rookie of the Year race is still wide open at this point. But Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham feels it should be his to lose.

The Pistons rookie spoke candidly about his chances for the ROY award after overcoming a slow start.

Via M Live's Lauren Williams:

“I made a pretty good case for it,” the 20-year-old said. “I think I made a strong case for it. I think I had some big moments this year that would show that I feel like I’m the best rookie this year. And there’s other guys this year that have had big moments as well but just situation for situation, I feel like I made my case strong. Every night I went out and competed to try to be the best me and that’s all I can ask for of myself. So whatever happens with the award happens, I’m ready for next year and what I can do next year.”

Regardless of what happens with the ROY chase, Cade Cunningham is ready to keep getting better on the Pistons. In some ways, it might be beneficial for him to lose if only to add another chip on his shoulder in what is sure to be a lengthy NBA career for the number one overall pick.

Cade Cunningham has proven himself to be a foundational building block for the Detroit Pistons. The Rookie of the Year award is just icing on the cake for a promising season.
