The Detroit Pistons reportedly have interest in veteran big man Pau Gasol, according to Vincent Ellis of The Detroit Free Press.

Gasol is an unrestricted free agent. The future Hall of Famer is recovering from surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot. Gasol recently said he wants to play in 2019-20 and can resume basketball activities in August.

Another name to watch is Pau Gasol. The Pistons have interest in him, a person with firsthand knowledge of the situation told the Free Press. A partnership could be natural, considering Pistons vice chairman Arn Tellem is Gasol’s former agent. Tellem attended Gasol’s wedding last weekend.

Gasol split time this past season with the San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks. He appeared in just 30 games and averaged 3.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from beyond the arc and 70.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Gasol was healthy during the 2017-18 season. He put up 10.1 points and 8.0 rebounds in 77 games for the Spurs. Gasol was teammates with Pistons guards Derrick Rose and Tony Snell on the Chicago Bulls. The Pistons are looking for a solid backup behind All-Star Andre Drummond.

Now 39-years-old, Gasol has career averages of 17.0 points and 9.2 rebounds. At this stage of his career, Pau can give you some solid minutes off the bench. We'll see if the Pistons end up signing Gasol.
