The 2024 Euros begin this Friday as Germany takes on Scotland as the host! Poland will take on the Netherlands in Group D on Sunday, which is certainly one of the more difficult groups in the tournament. France and Austria are also members of Group D. It is time to continue our 2024 Euros odds series with a Poland-Netherlands prediction and pick.

This Polish squad is elite and sits comfortably as the No. 28 team in the FIFA rankings. However, they will be without their star Robert Lewandowski as he is out with an injury suffered against Turkey in their latest friendly. Poland went on to win 2-1 but he left the match in the 32nd minute. The Polish are also worried about striker Karol Swiderski as he is also dealing with an ankle injury he suffered celebrating in that same warm-up. He left the match in the 12 minute after a goal set up from their captain. To make matters even worse, they are also without Arkadiusz Milik. The Eagles will have a tall task trying to at least force a draw against the Netherlands.

The Dutch are here to win. As the No. 7 team in the FIFA rankings, they know they have the talent to win the trophy for the first time since 1988. They trashed Iceland in their last friendly 4-0 and beat a very good Canada squad 4-0 in the warm-up before that. They will be aware that the Polish will be without their star goal-threats, so I expect the Dutch to come out aggressive in the first match of the group stage. The Netherlands will be without star Frankie de Jong but they have plenty of depth to fill his position in the midfield.

Why Poland Will Win

Poland has a long shot of winning this match against a high-powering offense. Their best bet is to try and defend at the highest level and keep it close for the majority of the match. Force the Dutch into difficult attempts and do not allow them to control the outer half. The Polish didn’t see a forward score in their friendlies outside of Swiderski anyway, as all their goals came from the midfielders. If they can control the back half and keep the keeper Wojciech Szczensy from making difficult stops, then they have a shot at maybe forcing a draw. If the Netherlands score early then there might not be anything they can do to get back into it. They must play stellar defense.

Why The Netherlands Will Win

The Netherlands are playing great soccer right now winning 4-0 in both of their latest warm-ups. Wout Weghort is feeling it with three goals in his last four matches and even captain Virgil van Dijk has two goals in four matches. The good news for the Dutch is they are spreading the love. Donyell Malen has two goals in his last four, while six others have one each. Memphis Depay has two assists with one goal and has been a threat for the forward position. The 30-year-old had five goals and one assist for Atletico Madrid last season.

The Dutch know they are the better team. They don’t need to score early to stay comfortable for a chance at a win. However, I expect them to be aggressive knowing the Polish counter-attack won’t be at their best. If the Dutch score early, they could see more come and win easily. If the Polish play well on defense and now allow a first-half goal, then there is a chance the Polish shock them. They are a good enough squad to give them problems.

Final Poland-Netherlands Prediction & Pick

The Netherlands should get the job done on Sunday. Without Lewandowski, I just don’t see a chance the Polish score multiple goals, and that will be what it takes to force a draw. Take the Dutch to win the opener.
