Everton will be hosting Chelsea at their Goodison Park in a match that could be highly determinantal for the survival of Everton in the Premier League this season. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our Premier League odds series, which includes our Everton-Chelsea prediction and pick we have laid out below.

Everton, the hosts of this match, are in deep trouble. Despite some positive results recently, they are in a relegation battle that will go down until the last moment of the season. Right now, they are in one of the three relegation spots, but they do have a game in hand over 17th-place Burnley, and only two points less than them. On the other hand, Chelsea have nothing to fight for this season. They are out of the Champions League, should have Champions League football for next season wrapped up, and they cannot advance further in the table. Still, due to all the issues that have plagued the Blues this year, they will look to win as many points as possible to end the year.

Why Everton Could Win This Match

Despite their status as a Premier League club being in jeopardy, there is a ton of talent in this Everton squad. Unfortunately, the mesh of their skills did not fully fit the intentions of either Rafael Benitez, Duncan Ferguson, or Frank Lampard, the three coaches that were at the helm this season. Having talented guys like Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Alex Iwobi, and others, means that Everton always has a chance to win. Yet, they have only mustered eight this season. One of them came recently against Manchester United, so that should be a sign of positivity in their relegation battle.

One more huge reason why Everton could win is the fact that Chelsea is really not playing for anything right now. The Blues are six points ahead of Arsenal and a full eight of Tottenham, with only five games to go. Since these teams play each other in the next few weeks, Chelsea should secure at least the fourth spot, meaning that they will play in the Champions League next year. Everton should use this and show more desire to win and save themselves from relegation.

Lastly, Everton has a huge history in the Premier League, as they have not been relegated since the 1930s. Due to this, the entire team will need to perform in these last few games to save the club and remain in the EPL. They might not expect points against a powerhouse like Chelsea, but the Toffees need to show the willpower to defeat even the best, if that means gaining ground on the others in the relegation battle. Thus, despite the obvious difference in form and overall state on the EPL table, Everton has a shot in this game.

Why Chelsea Could Win This Match

Chelsea could win this game for a simple reason – they are a much better team. Playing at Goodison Park should be of no issue to a team that, just a few weeks back, went to the Bernabeu and scored three goals with ease. Coach Thomas Tuchel has most of his squad available, not counting the now-standard absences of Ben Chilwell and Ross Barkley. The duo is joined by Callum Hodson-Odoi, Mateo Kovacic, and Andreas Christiansen, but they are all likely just going to miss this game.

Even without them, however, the talent in the Chelsea roster is much better than Everton's. Kai Havertz has been an animal this season and Timo Werner seems to be waking up, which is a great sign if he can transfer that form into next year. N'Golo Kante, despite slowing down a bit, is still amazing, and Chelsea have the second-best right back in the league right now in Reece James. The talent is really overwhelming and based on that, Chelsea have a massive chance of winning.

Additionally, a reason for them to try harder is simply to show their fans that they will be back in full strength next season. It has been a disappointing season, as the title challenge was dropped around New Year, while their European campaign finished in heartbreaking fashion, with a late goal in regular time and a goal by Karim Benzema in overtime to send the Blues packing. They could look to finish the season on a high note, secure third spot, and show their fans they can be very strong.
