Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper’s status for this coming Sunday’s game against the New York Giants remains cloudy. According to Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Cooper wasn’t able to join his teammates in practice Wednesday, suggesting that the Alabama product is still recovering from a concussion and an ankle injury he sustained last Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

Cooper will have to pass through the concussion protocol in order to be cleared to play against the Giants.

The 23-year-old wideout suffered both injuries when he received a big hit from Broncos safety Darian Stewart in the first half of the Raiders’ 21-14 win over Denver. Stewart was called for unnecessary roughness resulting in a 15-yard penalty for the Broncos, while Cooper did not return to the field after that. Before exiting the game, Cooper had just one catch, though it ended in a nine-yard touchdown. On the season, Cooper has 499 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 42 receptions.

Cooper’s looming absence would mean that Oakland will take on the Giants’ defense minus its top two wide receivers. The Raiders are already certain they'll be missing receiver Michael Crabtree as he serves a one-game suspension for fighting Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib on Sunday.

Without Cooper and Crabtree, Cordarelle Patterson and Seth Roberts are expected to temporarily lead the Raiders’ receiving corps while tight end Jared Cook is in line to get plenty of looks from quarterback Derek Carr.
