A trade for Antonio Brown has been brewing for weeks, and it appears that his contract was the only thing standing in the way.

The Pittsburgh Steelers traded Brown to the Oakland Raiders for 2019 third- and fifth-round draft picks on Saturday.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that several teams were willing to offer the same package or more, but his contract worth $39 million was the only concern. Brown's previous deal is no more, but his demands limited the pool to 1 team.

The seven-time Pro Bowler had three years on the contract he signed with the Steelers in 2017.

According to Pro Football Talk, Brown negotiated a new deal with Oakland that will pay him $50.125 million over the next three seasons, with $30.125 million in guaranteed money. Brown had no guaranteed compensation on his previous deal (h/t Joe Rutter of TribLIVE).

Brown, 30, is arguably the most elite wide receiver in today's game – despite his antics. He recorded 104 catches for 1,297 yards, and fore-fronted the league in touchdown receptions with 15.

“He can run every route you can dream of,” Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said of Brown, per ESPN's Field Yates.

“I know I say that about other receivers, but he can run double moves, he can run by you, he can run crossing routes, he's very good after the catch. But that's what the greatest thing is about this – I've told all our receivers – if you get a chance to watch him practice, you'll see what unlocks the greatness in him. He's the hardest working man I think in football. Hardest worker I've ever seen in practice, and I've seen Jerry Rice, I've seen a lot of good ones. I put Antonio Brown at the top. And if there's any young wideouts out there, I'd go watch him practice and figure out yourself why he's such a good player.”

Antonio Brown's modified $50 million deal will make him the NFL's “highest paid wide receiver” in the 2019-20 season, per Rapoport.
