The Las Vegas Raiders selected cornerback Damon Arnette with the 19th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and it appears he already has a new fan.

NFL legend and former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson took to Twitter to praise the rookie defensive back.

At first, it appeared Johnson did not know who “number 20” was, but that might make this all that much more impressive. Clearly, the wide receiver was not just hyping up a friend or someone he knew.

Instead, he saw a young player doing all the right things and felt like everyone needed to know.

That's not the case though. According to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, it was actually Johnson who trained with the young cornerback.

Arnette has loads of potential and (while some Raiders fans weren't too happy with the pick) most fans were excited to have the cornerback join their secondary.

Johnson pointed out Arnette's technique, patience and lateral movement, calling them “power point worthy.”

Those are not compliments to take lightly. Especially coming from Johnson, a receiver so deadly in his time that he had a “checklist” of all the cornerbacks he destroyed during a season.

Not only were his numbers incredible (766 receptions for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns), but Johnson was known for his fantastic technical abilities. He was a great route runner who could create separation and make any catch.

He knows what it takes for a cornerback to be able to cover elite receivers. That means he knows what to look for in young defensive backs.

This makes Johnson the perfect mentor for a rookie cornerback. The fact that Arnette trained with him this offseason could work wonders for the youngster.

2020 is going to be an odd year in the NFL. However, it looks like they will be playing a normal, 16-game schedule. With that in mind, it should be business as usual on the field, and the Raiders have a chance to compete, especially if the secondary improves.

Arnette will enter his rookie season with a chance to play a pretty large role in that secondary for Las Vegas. It seems that Johnson believes he is ready for it.
