Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden recently made it known that wide receiver Martvis Bryant has struggled a bit through training camp. It appears he received Gruden's message loud and clear.

Bryant has had some difficulty getting a grasp of the new playbook. However, according to Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area, quarterback Derek Carr says it is not due to a lack of effort:

“You can definitely tell that he has a sense of urgency for him to pick things up and learn them,” Carr said. “He wants to do right, he really does. To see that in him, to see him continue, he always practices hard, that’s never a question. He’s going to practice hard. And usually that’s the hardest part to get someone to practice hard, but he is. No problem practicing hard and going hard. In the film room and in the playbook is where he’s really working hard and he’s gotten a lot better.”

When asked about the state of the receiving corps, Gruden recently sang the praises of wide receiver Ryan Switzer. However, his tone quickly changed when Bryant's name came up. It became evident that the latter was failing to understand the offense.

Fortunately, it seems Bryant is doing all he can to make sure he gets it down by the time the 2018 NFL season rolls around. It is encouraging that Carr has taken notice of Bryant's efforts as of late.

Oakland has high hopes for their re-tooled offense this season. Bryant's skill set as a bonafide deep threat would add some much-needed firepower to Carr's arsenal.
