There was much speculation that the Las Vegas Raiders could replace Derek Carr this offseason due to the supposed divide between him and Jon Gruden. After being mum on the topic for months, Carr responded to the rumors of friction with Gruden.

“What people don’t get to see from the outside looking in is our interaction every single day,” Carr said, via Austin Boyd of Heavy.com. “That’s why out tight end [Darren Waller] … he just came out and was like ‘all this talk of a new quarterback is mind-boggling to me.'”

Prior to free agency, there were rumors that the Raiders could pursue Tom Brady or another veteran quarterback. On the contrary, Las Vegas ended up signing Marcus Mariota strictly to be a backup to Carr next season.

Still, with Mariota joining the quarterback room, there are assumptions that he could dethrone Carr for the starting gig in 2020. In an attempt to cast away the doubts concerning Carr, Darren Waller came out and defended his quarterback earlier this offseason.

Just this past season, Carr was as efficient as he's ever been in his career, completing 70.4 percent of his attempts. On the other hand, he had a decent output of 4,054 yards, 21 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Despite those numbers, Gruden is anxious to have a more dynamic passing attack moving forward. Thus, the reason why the Raiders added Henry Ruggs, Lynn Bowden, and Bryan Edwards in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Regardless of whether or not he and Gruden see eye-to-eye, Carr is going to be expected to deliver a stellar outing in 2020.
