The 2017 season was largely disappointing for Amari Cooper as his production took a significant dip from his Pro Bowl level of play. He had dealt with a few nagging injuries throughout the season that impacted his ability on the field to take a notable step back.

However, Cooper has been able to get past his injuries this offseason with a clean bill of health heading into the offseason workouts. His new teammate former Pro Bowl wide receiver Jordy Nelson quickly noticed the explosive nature of his play on the field (h/t Silver and Black Pride)

“I think the first thing that stands out is just how explosive he is,” Nelson said in a press conference Tuesday. While the 9-year veteran is getting to workout next to Cooper for the first time, he has long admired his play. “I’ve been able to see him play the last two years…very explosive. But in the film room, smart guy.”

Cooper's explosiveness is a major part of his game as it had helped him establish himself as one of the top young wideouts in the league after posting back-t0-back campaigns with at least 70 catches, 1,000 receiving yards, and five touchdown receptions to begin his NFL career. He had developed the strong reputation as being a reliable big-play threat despite his persistent issues with dropped passes.

Cooper has an opportunity in front of him to secure the role as the top receiving option in the passing game as head coach Jon Gruden has continued to speak highly of him. The 23-year-old has shown a tremendous amount of potential to take that next leap into becoming an elite wideout that is a legitimate game-changer in the offense.

With another full training camp under his belt without any nagging injuries, it could set the table to Cooper getting back on track to performing at a Pro Bowl level.
