The Oakland Raiders have signed quarterback Landry Jones, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Jones will compete with Nathan Peterman and Mike Glennon for the backup role to starting signal-caller Derek Carr. At least for the moment, anyway.

Remember: the Raiders own the fourth overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft next month, and while Oakland has said publicly that it is committed to Carr going forward, there has been some talk that the Raiders could draft a quarterback.

While Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is expected to go to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 1 overall, Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins and Missouri's Drew Lock could be on the board for the Raiders once they are ready to pick, and it would not be a surprise if Oakland decided to roll with one of them with its first-round selection.

Jones, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round (115th pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He went on to spend five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers as Ben Roethlisberger's backup, making five starts along the way.

Overall during his time with Pittsburgh, Jones threw for 1,310 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 63.9 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 86.2.

The Raiders are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won just four games. Oakland has made just one playoff appearance since last making the Super Bowl all the way back in the 2002 season.
