The Las Vegas Raiders are looking to start fresh in 2022, having parted ways with interim head coach Rich Bisaccia and replacing him with the newly hired Josh McDaniels. Among the questions facing the franchise is at the quarterback position, and whether or not Derek Carr is the right guy for the job going forward.

After McDaniels praised Carr throughout his introductory press conference, the latest reports suggest the Raiders are content with the 30-year-old as their QB of the future. According to Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are “prepared to commit” to Carr by extending his contract with the team:

Carr had previously signed a five-year, $125 million deal with the Raiders back in 2018. That contract is due to expire at the end of the 2022 season, at which point he would become an unrestricted free agent. Rather than try to build things back up with a new quarterback under center, the Raiders seem to think they can accomplish their goals with Carr and are prepared to offer him an extension to keep him in Las Vegas for the foreseeable future.

Last year, Carr had a solid season for the Raiders, despite the controversies surrounding the team, including the scandalous departure of Jon Gruden and the arrest of young wide receiver Henry Ruggs, among other things. Carr led the Raiders to a playoff berth, having thrown for 4,804 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. It was the Raiders' first trip to the playoffs since 2016, and Carr's first-ever appearance in the postseason.

After what can certainly be considered a successful season for the Raiders, it looks like locking down Carr on a long-term deal seems to be their next course of action.
