It's been a busy offseason for the Las Vegas Raiders, as the front office has put together a solid roster for the upcoming season. Now, the franchise makes a big move after hiring Sandra Douglass Morgan as president. With this hire, the organization made NFL history.

According to Mick Akers, Morgan is the first black president in league history to help run an NFL franchise. So, the Raiders improve the business side of the organization while giving Sandra Douglass Morgan an amazing opportunity as well. We'll see how it plays out, but this seems like a great move for Las Vegas.

Morgan is no stranger to making history. Before taking on this role with the Raiders, she “was the first African American to serve as Control Board chair from 2019-2021,” per Review Journal. Sandra Douglass Morgan is clearly excited about her new job with Las Vegas as she plans to get to work as soon as possible.

The previous president, Dan Ventrelle was fired back in May 2022 and the Raiders have finally found the right person to replace him. Ventrelle is going through his own situation, as according to Review Journal, he believes his firing was made in retaliation for him alerting the NFL to a hostile work environment within the organization.” Sandra Douglass Morgan addresses the issue right after being hired.

“Let me be clear – I am not here to avoid or sidestep problems or concerns that need to be addressed. I've given long and thoughtful consideration to joining you, and I've done so because I believe in the promise of the Raiders. Most importantly, I believe in your core values of integrity, community, and commitment to excellence. I will expect you to embody those and to hold me accountable to doing the same.”

So, the Raiders have a new president in Sandra Douglass Morgan and it sounds like she's a great fit. Congratulations to her for making NFL history, as this hopefully opens up more opportunities for African Americans to earn leadership roles within the league.
