Over the last few days, the Oakland Raiders continued to add more pieces to their puzzle, signing former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson. They also had interest in another proven player at the position in Brian Cushing, with a visit on Sunday on tap for the organization.

However, the expected move to ink Johnson to a contract has pushed the Raiders to hold off on the meeting with Cushing this upcoming weekend, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The addition of Johnson has taken away the need to pursue Cushing given that the two would fill the same role in the Raiders' defensive scheme. This also pushes 31-year-old out of what could have been another potential landing spot, as he has only received significant interest from the Seattle Seahawks since being released by the Houston Texans back in February.

Cushing has a proven resume as a cornerstone for the Texans over the last nine seasons behind his high level of production and dependability. He is the all-time franchise leader with 665 total tackles in addition to 14.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and eight interceptions. However, his situation in Houston became dicey after he was suspended for 10 games due to a performance-enhancing drug violation for the second time in his career.

This alone could be playing a big factor in teams expressing little interest in bringing him aboard. There is a risk involved with the potential that it could happen again as a repeat offender. Nonetheless, Cushing remains on the open market as training camp begins around the league.
