The Las Vegas Raiders kept their season alive Monday night, defeating the Cleveland Browns on a last-second field goal, 16-14. The win improved the Raiders record to 7-7. They are one of 10 teams that are either 8-6 or 7-7, fighting for three wild card spots. Unfortunately for Las Vegas, they received some bad news on Wednesday.

Starting safety Johnathan Abram will have season-ending shoulder surgery on Thursday, according to NFL.com. He dislocated the shoulder during the Week 15 game against the Browns. Apparently, he tried coming back into the game and wanted to continue playing this season. But team doctors convinced him otherwise. It is simply too risky to continue playing with the injured shoulder.

Before leaving the game Monday night, Johnathan Abram had racked up nine tackles, six of them solo. Abram was drafted by the Raiders with the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Abram had been one of the few bright spots with the Raiders defense this season.

The team also placed cornerback Brandon Pacyson on the COVID-19 reserve list Wednesday.

At this point in the season, the Raiders need to win two of their final three games, if not win out in order to make the postseason. Of the four 7-7 teams, they are ahead of each one. They own the tie-breakers over Miami and Cleveland via head-to-head sweep. They already are ahead of the 7-7 Denver Broncos via divisional tiebreaker.

Everything is right in front of them. They play the Broncos this week. Then the Raiders finish the season against two of the teams currently holding wild card positions; the Los Angeles Chargers and the Indianapolis Colts.
