Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth is 37 years old and has been playing in the NFL for 13 years, so, naturally, retirement is inching closer and closer.

However, Whitworth is not sure if he will consider calling it quits after the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots on Sunday:

“Every single season I play, I don’t take it lightly,” Whitworth said, according to Rich Hammond of The Orange County Register. “Retirement is always an option. After every season, I look at the year and how I felt and how I played, at the kids, the wife and family and what is important and what I need to do. I’m somebody who believes in balance.”

Amazingly enough, Whitworth has seemed to get better with age for the Rams.

He did not make his first Pro Bowl until his seventh year in the league in 2012 and did not make another one until 2015, when he also earned his first First-Team All-Pro selection. Whitworth then proceeded to make three straight trips to Honolulu from 2015 through 2017, including another First-Team All-Pro selection in 2017.

But it's not a matter of production for Whitworth. It's a matter of desire.

“Physically, I feel great,” Whitworth said. “I don’t think that would really be the decision. The decision is, do I feel like I can give everything I’ve got to the game? If that’s something I feel I can do, and physically I still feel like I can play, and the wife and kids are on board, then that’s something we’ll do, but we’ll make that decision when the time comes.”
