It is no secret that Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has taken the league by storm. Even general manager Les Snead can see why left tackle Andrew Whitworth likened him to Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

The comparison to Saban is certainly an interesting one. Snead said during an appearance on The Jim Rome Show that their similarities as football coaches are clear as day.

“If you were out to dinner with them, you might not think they're similar at all in terms of personality,” Snead said. “But I do think at the core of what they're trying to accomplish in their role as head football coaches, it's very, very similar. Both are football savants. Both of them are really, really good teachers. Both of them have high standards and do their best to prepare those players to meet those standards.”

McVay has received plenty of praise over the last two seasons and rightfully so. Many criticized the Rams for making him the youngest head coach in NFL history. However, they were quickly silenced by the tremendous turnaround that followed after just one season. The offense went from worst-to-first in the 2017 campaign and are now widely considered the most high-powered group in the league.

However, McVay still has a long way to go before solidifying the Saban comparison. The Alabama legend has dominated college football over the last decade. Not only have they won five National championships during that span, but there seems to be no end in sight for their sustained level of excellence. This is certainly something McVay would like to imitate in Los Angeles.

Fortunately, the Rams have gotten off to a solid start by locking up a number of key “recruits” for the long haul such as running back Todd Gurley and defensive tackle Aaron Donald. All they need to do now is prove that they are capable of winning in the playoffs for years to come.
