In the last several days, there has been plenty of rumblings that the Los Angeles Rams are nearing an agreement on a lucrative extension for star defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

With that in mind, it appears that the Rams have restructured the contracts of both wide receiver Robert Woods and offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth to clear up more salary cap space for the 2018 season that appears to signal that Donald's new deal may be coming quite soon, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

The timing of these moves would seem to indicate just that as the chatter has picked up with the notion that Donald could have his press conference about the new contract early next week. The Rams have been quite optimistic about the entire process that it would eventually work itself out with reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year that would end his holdout.

This would presumably put him back in the fold less than a week prior to the start of the regular season where he could likely be ready in time to take the field for Week 1 action on Monday Night Football to take on the Oakland Raiders.

Meanwhile, the willingness of both Woods and Whitworth to rework their salaries for this upcoming season shows how much Donald means to the team. He has been the anchor of their defense and his presence has been key in helping the franchise move forward toward competing for the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl in the 2018 campaign.

Woods is coming off a career-best campaign in his first year with the 56 catches for a career-best 781 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He had proven to be a huge part of the passing game that helped elevate the Rams offense to being one of the most potent in the league. Meanwhile, Whitworth proved to be the anchor of the offensive line that helped earn him his fourth Pro Bowl selection and second First-Team All-Pro nod.
