Quarterback Matthew Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams yesterday, as the Detroit Lions received Jared Goff, a 2021 third-round draft pick, a 2022 first-round draft pick, and a 2023 first-round draft pick in exchange, via Dan Schneier of CBS Sports.

In this process of getting traded, Stafford made it known that he did not have the New England Patriots on the list of teams that he was interested in. According to Mike Florio of NBC Sports, no specific reason was provided by the veteran. However, reasons such as the Patriots not having the necessary assets to go the distance as well as former Detriot Lions head coach Matt Patricia returning to the New England coaching staff were given by Florio.

While at Detroit, Matthew Stafford and Patricia had a 13-29-1 record while never making the playoffs in the 2018-2020 seasons that these two were together. One would expect Stafford to want a change from Patricia's coaching style and prioritize other teams on his list of potential trade destinations.

This offseason, the Patriots will continue to recover from not making the playoffs for the first time since the 2008 season as an 11-year long streak was snapped. Time will tell if they missed out on Stafford's ability to revitalize their offense.

The Rams will be looking forward to having the veteran entering his 13th season lead their offense. Paired with one of the best defenses in the league as well as a variety of offensive weapons, Stafford put himself in a great position to play on a team eager to bring home a Super Bowl.
