The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a big divisional win against the Seattle Seahawks, 20-10. The win brought the Rams into a tie with the Arizona Cardinals at 10-4, atop the NFC West. The Cardinals currently hold the tiebreaker via divisional record. Nonetheless, the Rams are having an outstanding season. Much of that has to do with the play of wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

On Wednesday, Kupp was named to the 2021 NFC Pro Bowl team. That was a no-brainer though. Kupp is on a historic pace this season. That prompted Rams head coach Sean McVay to address the idea of Kupp winning the NFL's Most Valuable Player Award.

McVay shared a sentiment that is very accurate. “He's (Cooper Kupp) a legitimate contender for many awards.” He most certainly is alive for the league's Offensive Player of the Year Award. That award is a two-man race between Kupp and Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. Both players are miles ahead of every other player at their position statistically, and both accomplishing historic goals.

No wide receiver has ever won the NFL MVP Award.

Kupp has 122 catches for 1,625 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. There are still three games left in the season. The NFL record for most catches in a season belongs to Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints. He recorded 149 catches in 2019. But the more impressive and more important record Kupp is chasing is receiving yards.

Calvin Johnson, A.K.A., “Megatron” had 1,964 receiving yards back in 2012 for the Detroit Lions. That places Kupp a little over 300 yards away from break the record. The added 17th game in the NFL season might provide just enough for Kupp to break the record.
