The Los Angeles Rams are predictably not present during the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. True to their “f— them picks” reputation, the reigning champs didn't have a selection in the first round. However, that didn't stop head coach Sean McVay from having fun during the yearly event.

During a press conference held by the Rams, Sean McVay learned that the New England Patriots drafted Cole Strange at 29th overall. McVay was shocked, and he let everyone in the room know by his facial expression and reaction afterwards. The coach remarked that he thought Strange would drop to them at the 100s. McVay and the Rams' brass probably thought that they could snag Strange in the 3rd round with the 104th overall pick. Clearly, though, Bill Belichick and the Pats saw something in Strange that was worth grabbing in the first round. This is despite the offensive lineman's absence from most mock draft boards.

The Rams' approach to their championship run has been trading their first and second-rounders for high-end talent. However, their two biggest stars have been homegrown talent: Cooper Kupp was a third-round selection, while Aaron Donald was a first-round pick. It's clear that LA would rather find a gem in the later rounds than try and reach in the first round.

Do the Rams have a backup plan now that Strange was taken way higher than they expected? Their offensive line is one of the things they're trying to improve in the offseason. Maybe another lineman will fall to them with their picks.
