In the last few months of the offseason, the underlying focus around the Los Angeles Rams has been on the contract situation regarding All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald's contract situation.

Donald has yet to work out a new lucrative deal with the Rams up through this point of the offseason as both sides look to be a ways apart from working out a new deal. Head coach Sean McVay provided some clarity to the matter on Saturday voicing that the two sides haven't made much progress since the start of training camp toward agreeing on a new extension, according to media transcripts sent out by the team.

“You know, I’m not really sure. We’re scheduled to meet together with (General Manager) Les (Snead), (Executive Vice President of Football Operations/Chief of Operating Officer) Kevin (Demoff), myself and (Vice President, Football/Business Administration) Tony (Pastoors) tonight to discuss kind of where we are at. There really hasn’t been much progress in terms of the dialogue since camp. I know that we’re very intentional about trying to get him here, love to have him. In the meantime like we’ve said, really appreciative of the way that guys have worked, that are here, doing a good job of finding ways to get better. Certainly that deadline, I don’t really know exactly how they look at it, how we look at it. I just know that we want to try to find a way to get him here, and that’s important to us.”

There is a clear desire from the Rams to get a new contract worked out with Donald at some point in time preferably in the near future as he is a major piece to the puzzle to what they do defensively. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year is the anchor of the defensive front that sets the tone his play on the field.

Things have become quite a bit more difficult as it's believed that he's looking to get a deal that not only going to make him the highest-paid defensive player in the league but among the top-paid quarterbacks. The Rams are believed be more than willing to give him the richest contract for a defensive player but there doesn't appear to be any progress on a number beyond that.

Ultimately, both sides have a significant interest in getting something done that could be just a matter of time before that is hammered out.
