The Los Angeles Rams added a veteran leader and talented player in safety Eric Weddle this NFL offseason. No matter the circumstances, it would be hard to knock the addition too much – as Weddle is one of the best safeties in league history.

However, head coach Sean McVay is giving another reason to think this was a solid move.

According to Dan Pompei of the Athletic, there was an immediate connection between the two parties.

“We were in alignment with our values and the things we want to epitomize as an organization on a day-to-day basis,” McVay says. “Loves football, loves people. We had an immediate connection, a good rapport, a like-mindedness.”

Eric Weddle may not be the elite talent he once was, but he's still a very good safety. Meanwhile, those instincts and that leadership don't just go away. Weddle will be a very welcome addition to the locker room indeed.

The fact that Weddle seems to fit in perfectly with what the Rams want is just icing on the cake. He'll be 34 during the 2019 season, meaning his NFL career is winding down. However, his demeanor clearly shows that even when he isn't producing as much on the field, he'll be a valuable asset to the Rams.

That seems to be what McVay was looking for. He already has a ridiculous amount of young talent on his roster – especially his defense. Someone like Weddle is now present to keep everyone on the winning path and make sure they have the right goals in place.

Eric Weddle has been to the Pro Bowl six times, including in each of the last three seasons. His seemingly perfect connection with Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams could bring out the best in him and help raise that number a little more before he hangs up the cleats for good.
